Coptic Cairo

Christian monuments in old Cairo have a religious and historic importance. Christianity is a transitional period between Pharaonic and Islamic periods.
The Coptic Museum contains a collection of rare antiquities.
The Church of Abou Serga close to the Coptic museum dates back to the 4th century A.D.
It is built in the Basilica style above the cave in which the Holy Family took refuge on their way to Egypt while escaping from King Herod.
During the 4th century the Hanging Church was built on the remains of the roman Fortress of Babylon . It includes about 90 rare icons of basilican style.
