Khan el-Khalili

This market can be found within the heart of Islamic Cairo, It was built in the 14th., century AD on one of Cairo’s oldest area, where El Azhar mosque one of the earliest Islamic universities and seat of learning for students from the Islamic countries.
Al Azhar is regarded to be the rays diffused by the solar disc of islam.

It is always a very busy place full of characteristics, with stalls selling items ranging from local spices to exotic jewellery, wooden products, Leather ware, embroided dresses and nice hand made products for souvenirs.
The market first opened in the Middle Ages and exists today mainly for tourists. You will find many bargains there. Women should dress modestly.
