Valley of the Kings

Beginning with the 18th Dynasty and ending with the 20th, the kings abandoned the Memphis area and built their tombs in the west bank “ the City of the Dead “ where the sun sets and life fades.
Most of the tombs were cut into the limestone following a similar pattern: three corridors, an antechamber and a sunken sarcophagus chamber.
The Tomb of Tutankhamen was discovered by Howard Carter in November 4th, 1922. He was only 16 or 17 years old when he died, but what made his tomb stand apart from 61 others was that it had not been robbed. The treasures, included a gold effigy of Tutankhamen, a solid gold coffin and two golden chariots.
